A Brief History of Lemon Fest 2020 & Nice Carnival

Menton has been popular for its lemons in Europe for centuries. A particular hotelier in France organized an event showcasing citrus fruits & flowers in the hotel’s gardens in the year 1928. The event was a hit among the locals & they hit the streets next year with decked up carts of lemon & orange trees to celebrate. The local tourist council observed the possibility of organizing the lemon festival as one of the French Festivals to draw tourists. The Citrus theme complemented the warm colours of the town. Thus, the First Lemon Festival in Menton was inaugurated in 1935.

The First Nice Carnival was held on February 23, 1873, in the City of Nice. Andriot Saetone was responsible for establishing the ‘Committee of Festivities’ which organized the carnival. But, Nice Carnival had unorganized parades till the 19^th Century. That changed when Alexis Mossa & his son Gustave modernized the carnival with floating models. Thus, the tradition of floating models ensued in the following years of Nice Carnival. This made it one of the most popular carnivals on the planet.

The Lemon Fest 2020 will be held from 15^th February to 3^rd March in the City of Menton. Concurrently, The Nice Carnival 2020 is scheduled to be held from 15^th to 29^th February.

Citrus Patterns Exhibition

The Citrus Motifs exhibition will be held at Biovès gardens. Visitors can explore the beautiful motifs throughout the duration of the festival i.e 15^th February to 3^rd

Garden of Lights

The beautiful Citrus patterns light up. The intriguing light is combined with unusual sounds to create a new aura around the garden. You can visit Biovès gardens on 15^th, 21^st & 28^th February to witness the grand display of lit-up exhibits.

Golden fruit parades

You can participate in the exciting parades on 16^th, 23^rd February & 1^st March. The timings are 2:30 P.M to 4 PM & will be held at Promenade du Soleil (seafront).

Night-time parades

Participate in enthralling night parades on 20^th & 27^th February held at Promenade du Soleil (seafront). The timings are from 9 pm to 10:30 pm.

Nice Carnival 2020

Flower Parade

You can participate in this flower-filled event on 15^th,19^th, 26^th & 29^th February at Place Masséna – Jardin Albert 1er. The event starts at 2:30 pm. Costumed models throw more than 100,000 flowers from the floating models to the visitors.

Carnival Parade of Lights

Treat yourself to visual animations on huge screens. Floating models are lit-up during the evening hours illuminating the city of Nice for a beautiful Night-time Carnival with music & more. The dates for this parade are 15^th, 18^th, 22^nd, 25^th & 29th February. It will start at 9 pm & will be held at Place Masséna – Jardin Albert 1er.

Carnival Parade

18 floats made as per this year’s theme will be paraded from Place Masséna – Jardin Albert 1er on 23^rd February at 2:30 pm. Music & street theatre groups will perform live shows to enthral the audiences.
